Driver Compliance is All in the Details: A Feature with Compliance Coordinator, Ben Estevez

The devil is in the details. The saying rings especially true for ClearConnect Solutions’ Ben Estevez. Ben’s role in handling compliance for vendors and carriers – and the critical need for accuracy in supporting new bindings and renewals – suits him wholeheartedly.

“Attention to detail absolutely activates a part of my brain,” said Ben. “The details keep me focused and on my toes. I think data (and everything the data aligns) feeds a need in my brain to dig for the details and assure accuracy.  I think there is some part of our brains that handles making sure everything is right, but it’s stronger in some people than in others. Nothing wrong with that. But working with that part of my brain and making sure it’s happy really drives who I am.”

As Compliance Coordinator at ClearConnect Solutions, Ben is responsible for supporting drivers, fleet owners, and insurance agents with several key compliance aspects.

Driver Compliance Aspects
  • New bindings
  • Renewals
  • Background checks
  • MVRs
  • Drug screenings
  • Safety courses

Ben communicates daily with agents and drivers on the documentation required to achieve and maintain compliance according to safety guidelines set forth by the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA), as part of the United States Department of Transportation (USDOT).

“My work helps to get them on the road and keep them on the road,” Ben points out. “Additionally, a big part of our work is to make sure there is nobody dangerous on the road. Approving people to get on the road is a big responsibility.”

A big part of Ben’s work is focused on ClearTrac, the compliance management solution that puts compliance, risk, and onboarding on cruise control for transportation companies.

“For me, working for a company is not just a paycheck.  I want to work with people who care about what we do, and that’s us at ClearConnect.”

Ben’s attention to detail definitely feeds into the activities Ben enjoys during his personal time. “I love being outdoors,” Ben said. “I like hiking in interesting places. I go kayaking. While I’m outdoors in nature I can let my mind flow free. I pay attention to the beauty of my surroundings and the uniqueness of where I am.”

Ironically, Ben also enjoys urban life. “I enjoy spending time with friends downtown, listening to music, and trying new restaurants. I enjoy taking weekend trips to new cities and exploring,” he said. “My family is Dominican, and I was born and raised in Miami. So, of course, I love Caribbean food – I grew up with it. But having lived in both North and South Carolina, I’ve developed a taste for southern barbeque. I lived in Austin, Texas for a time and discovered that what means barbeque to a Texan is not barbeque for a Carolinian. I have come to enjoy Indian food. The multicultural downtown food scene in Austin was great. It’s fun to see and taste things from different cultures, and I’m always interested in trying new foods.”

Ben’s interest in diverse cuisines carries over to music genres, too. “What was fun about Austin was you could walk into any bar or restaurant and there would be live music. I dug it all, whether it was salsa, jazz, rock, or country. It was all great.”

Continuing his migration north from Miami, Ben now enjoys sampling the outdoors, food, and music in Madison, Wisconsin. Devil’s Lake, just northwest of Madison, satisfies his thirst for kayaking and hiking. The downtown Madison food and music scenes keep him fed and entertained.

Ben was already experienced in logistics operations before joining ClearConnect Solutions where he learned to thrive in critical-thinking roles. “ClearConnect Solutions and its clients keep me on my toes,” he said. “Scott, Zoey, and Nick taught me to enjoy the organized chaos of this industry.” He said that he loves to help figure out what the problem is first, then find a solution.

“It’s the ‘why’ of things that keeps me going,” Ben said. “I’ve been with ClearConnect Solutions for two years now. It’s a different company from anywhere else I’ve worked. The people you work with, what you’re doing for the industry, the growth opportunity…that’s what I’ve found here. We’re filling a big need for our clients.”

A special thank you to Ben Estevez for his time in conducting this interview and preparing a feature to spotlight our talented team and our passion for helping drivers, fleet owners, and insurance providers thrive in viewing and managing risk and compliance in the transportation  industry.
